Jacobean Context: Macbeth

Service Description

This class helps students understand the context for Shakespeare’s Macbeth. We will focus upon the significance of Shakespeare’s life, the Jacobean times, the importance of different settings, the Globe theatre, and different audiences. We will cover Shakespeare’s biography, King James and his English court, the Great Chain of Being, class and ambition, marriage and sexuality, religious tensions, attitudes towards witchcraft, the importance of the tragic genre, settings and staging the play at the Globe stage. Students will receive the blank context presentation to print for their own revision.
